The day starts very early because the journey between Hurghada and Cairo takes several hours. After arriving in Cairo, you visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, have lunch at a selected restaurant and then continue to the Giza Plateau with the three main pyramids and the Sphinx.

Entrance tickets for the sights included in the standard programme, lunch, private return transport and your Egyptologist are included in the price. There are no planned shopping stops.

Private Cairo Day Trip from Hurghada at a Glance

This tour is designed for travellers who want to visit Cairo during a Red Sea holiday and prefer to travel privately rather than with a large group.

The day combines the best-known monuments of Giza with the Grand Egyptian Museum.

The standard programme includes:

  • Private pickup from your accommodation

  • Air-conditioned vehicle

  • German- or English-speaking Egyptologist

  • Grand Egyptian Museum

  • Pyramids of Giza

  • Sphinx

  • Entrance tickets for the listed standard areas

  • Lunch

  • Private return transfer to your hotel

  • No planned shopping stops

Because the journey is long, you should allow a full day and part of the night for this excursion.

Itinerary for Your Private Cairo Day Trip from Hurghada

The exact order of the visits may change because of traffic, opening times or local conditions.

The services included in the standard programme remain part of the tour.

1. Early Pickup from Your Hotel

Pickup in Hurghada is usually planned for around 02:00.

You are collected directly from your hotel or accommodation and travel in a private, air-conditioned vehicle.

Because only your own group is travelling, there is no long collection route around many different hotels.

After pickup, the journey towards Cairo begins.

Pickup can also be arranged from El Gouna, Sahl Hasheesh, Makadi Bay, Soma Bay and Safaga.

Additional transfer charges apply from Marsa Alam and El Quseir.

Drive from Hurghada to Cairo

The distance between Hurghada and Cairo is considerable.

You should expect to spend several hours in the vehicle each way. Traffic, breaks, checkpoints and your exact starting point can all affect the total travel time.

On a private tour, short breaks can be arranged with the driver and Egyptologist within the day’s schedule.

The early departure is necessary to leave enough time for the museum, pyramids, Sphinx and lunch.

If you want a clearer idea of the distance and driving time before booking, you can read more here:

Grand Egyptian Museum

After arriving in Cairo, you visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, often called the GEM.

The museum is located close to the Giza Plateau and focuses on the history and archaeological heritage of Ancient Egypt.

Together with your Egyptologist, you explore the areas planned for your visit.

You can see large statues, sarcophagi and many original objects from different periods of Egyptian history.

In a museum of this size, having your own guide can be especially useful.

Instead of simply walking from room to room, you receive explanations about selected objects and can ask questions throughout the visit.

Your Egyptologist can also focus more on the subjects that interest your group.

Why the Grand Egyptian Museum Works Well with the Pyramids

The museum and the pyramids complement each other well in a single day.

Inside the museum, you see original artefacts, statues and archaeological finds.

At the Giza Plateau, you then stand in front of monuments created by the same civilisation.

This means the day is not only about photo stops.

The museum visit can help you understand more of what you see later at the pyramids.

For first-time visitors to Cairo, this combination gives a broad introduction to Ancient Egypt.

Lunch in Cairo

Lunch is planned at a selected local restaurant.

The meal is included in the tour price.

Drinks are not included in the standard price and can be ordered separately.

If you are vegetarian or have other dietary requirements, mention them when booking.

This allows them to be considered when the tour is organised.

Pyramids of Giza

One of the main parts of the private Cairo day trip from Hurghada is the Giza Plateau.

Here stand the three major pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure.

Your Egyptologist explains more about the pharaohs for whom the pyramids were built and the wider role of the Giza necropolis.

The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the largest of the three.

Even if you have seen it many times in photographs, its scale feels very different when you stand beside it.

You have time for explanations and photos during the visit.

Entering the Great Pyramid of Khufu

The standard tour price includes access to the Giza Plateau, but it does not automatically include the separate ticket for entering the Great Pyramid of Khufu.

If the interior is open and tickets are available, you can add the visit by paying the official supplementary entrance fee.

This ticket is not included in the standard tour price.

If entering the pyramid is important to you, tell us when booking.

The interior route can be narrow and physically demanding in places.

You do not need to enter the pyramid to enjoy the Giza Plateau and see the monument from outside.

Panoramic Views of the Pyramids

Depending on the day’s schedule and local conditions, the visit may include different areas of the Giza Plateau.

From some viewpoints, several pyramids can be seen together.

These stops are useful for photos and help you understand the size and layout of the whole archaeological site.

The exact route on the plateau depends on traffic, local regulations and conditions on the day.

The Great Sphinx of Giza

After the pyramids, the Sphinx is one of the main stops on the Giza Plateau.

The monumental figure with the body of a lion and a human head stands close to the pyramids.

Your Egyptologist explains the historical connection between the Sphinx and the Giza necropolis.

There is also time for photos.

The visit works naturally with the pyramids because both are part of the same archaeological area.

Pyramids and Sphinx Without Planned Shopping Stops

There are no planned visits to papyrus shops, perfume shops or other sales locations on this tour.

This is especially useful on a Cairo day trip.

The outward and return journeys already take a considerable amount of time.

The time available in Cairo is therefore intended for the museum, pyramids, Sphinx, lunch and necessary breaks.

If you want to buy souvenirs, you can of course do so if the schedule allows.

A shop visit is not a required part of the programme.

Private Cairo Tour or Group Tour?

A group tour may cost less.

The private Cairo day trip from Hurghada offers a different style of travel.

You travel only with the people included in your booking.

There is no need to collect many guests from different hotels.

During the sightseeing, you have your own Egyptologist and can ask questions directly.

The pace can also be adjusted more easily around your own group within the time available.

This does not mean every part of the day can be changed freely.

Opening times, traffic and the long return journey to Hurghada still set clear limits.

Even so, a private tour offers more personal flexibility than a large coach tour.

Your Own Egyptologist in Cairo

Cairo and Giza contain a huge amount of historical information, so a knowledgeable guide can make a noticeable difference.

At the museum, your Egyptologist helps you choose and understand important objects from the large collection.

At the pyramids, they explain the monuments and their historical context.

Because only your own group takes part in the guiding, you can ask questions at any time.

Guiding is available in German or English.

If you would like to read more about what a knowledgeable Egyptologist adds to a cultural trip, you can find our guide here:

How Tiring Is a Cairo Day Trip from Hurghada?

The trip lasts around 19 hours.

This makes it one of the longer day tours from Hurghada.

The biggest challenge is usually not the walking but the long outward and return journey.

You also spend several hours sightseeing at the museum and Giza.

For many travellers, the trip is manageable if they are prepared for a long day.

Comfortable clothing, enough drinks and a small travel pillow for the vehicle can help.

If you do not enjoy long road journeys, a Cairo tour by plane may suit you better.

Cairo Day Trip with Children

Families can also book the private Cairo tour.

One advantage of the private format is that your family travels in its own vehicle.

Even so, the length of the day should not be underestimated.

A pickup around 02:00 means a very early start for children, followed by a long drive.

For younger children, snacks, drinks, a small pillow, a light blanket and something to do in the vehicle can be useful.

Sun protection is also important at the Giza Plateau.

Whether the tour suits your child therefore depends not only on age, but also on how well they handle long journeys.

Children aged 6 to 11 pay 50% of the relevant adult price. Children aged 0 to 5 join free of charge.

Cairo with Limited Mobility

A large part of the day is spent in a private vehicle.

This may make the tour more manageable for some travellers with limited mobility than travelling in a large coach.

There is still walking at the sightseeing sites, and some surfaces are uneven.

At the Giza Plateau, sand, stones and changes in ground level can make movement more difficult.

If you use a wheelchair or need help getting in and out of the vehicle, tell us before booking.

We can then check which vehicle is suitable and which parts of the programme may be reasonably accessible.

Pickup from Hurghada and Other Red Sea Resorts

These include:

  • Hurghada

  • El Gouna

  • Sahl Hasheesh

  • Marsa Alam

  • El Quseir

Your exact pickup time depends on your hotel location.

The current transfer supplement from Marsa Alam is €60 per person.

The current transfer supplement from El Quseir is €45 per person.

Because both resorts are further from the usual route from Hurghada, the total duration of the day may also increase.

Provide your exact hotel name when booking.

What to Bring on Your Cairo Day Trip

After the visit to Giza, the return journey to the Red Sea begins.

You can rest in the private vehicle while your driver takes you back to your accommodation.

Breaks are arranged when needed during such a long journey.

The exact return time cannot be guaranteed to the minute.

Traffic in Cairo, road conditions, breaks and your holiday resort can all affect your arrival time.

It is therefore best not to plan fixed evening activities after the tour.
